His career as a male Supermodel started in 1989 when he was "discovered" by the photographer Barry King when rollerskating on Venice Beach, California, USA. His breakthrough came in 1991 with the Calvin Klein Jeans campaign, shot by Bruce Weber and published in Vanity Fair. His first magazine cover was for "Harpers Bazaar" in the same year. He later modelled for Gianni Versace, Donna Karan, Ungaro and Calvin Klein, earning him a reputation for being the world's most beautiful man, as well as making him the world's highest paid male model. He has appeared in numerous fashion shows as well as in magazines like Vogue Italia and Elle. In May 1992 Marcus Schenkenberg was named one of People magazines 50 Most Beautiful People in the World.

Marcus has appeared as "Tiny" in the movie Prince Valiant (1997) , in Modern Talking (1999), Hostage (1999) (lead character), Dinner Rush (2000) and Meatballs and Macaroni.
He has also appeared in TV programs and series as VIP (1998), the German series "Wetten, dass..?" (2000), As the World Turns, The Corlucci Cald Show (on Italian TV), La Grande Note de Lunadi Sera (Italy) and Never mind the buzzcocks (2002) as well as "La Talpa", the Italian Version of "Celebriy Mole" (2004).
