After
dropping out of City College of New York, Lauren
served in the United States Army from 1962 to
1964. He also worked as a Brooks Brothers salesman
before purchasing the polo label that he started
from Brooks in 1967. He opened his own tie business,
Polo Fashions, in 1968. He was able to secure
a $50,000 loan from a financial backer, and since
then Lauren's "fashion empire" has grown
to into a $1 billion industry.
In 1964, he married Ricky Low-Beer. They have three children-Andrew, David and Dylan.
